Chum Fry Are Here!March 02, 2017
The always long anticipated arrival of the Chum Fry into Puget Sound has begun. What does this mean you ask? Well, it means one of the single largest food groups for the sea run cutthroat has been placed in front of them and by instinct they will spend the next couple months gorging themselves accordingly.
This is a time when even the cutthroat can become a bit selective on which flies they will hit as there is so much real food around them, your fly will be best presented if it appears to "fit in" if you will.
Small grey or squirrel tail flies with par markings at about 1-2 inches long here to start are going to do best. When you witness the schools them trouncing the bait balls, only one thing to do besides sit in awe and that is get your fly in there!
Happy fly fishing and as always let us know how we can help you experience Puget Sound or any other fishery in Washington.
