Action Needed: Bunker Amendment - Floating Under the RadarDecember 23, 2016
As anglers we have a responsibility to fight for the future of our waters and the game fish we all love to chase.
Despite their crucial role as a lower-level member of the food chain, Menhaden are regulated on a single species basis. This means that population size targets are set only to maintain a stable Menhaden population, without taking into account the effects of Menhaden harvest on natural predators. An amendment from the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), in charge of establishing marine regulations, proposes to instead set population targets on an ecological basis.
The ASMFC are accepting public comment until Jan. 4th. Check out the full blog from our writer Alex Gotleib and learn how you can voice your support.
