Schoolie Bluefish in the Long Island Sound

June 27, 2016

We had originally intended to snag some bunker and do some striper fishing, but our host had recently just bought a new TFO 8 weight with some heavy sinking line and there weren't many bunker to be found! We found tons of schoolie bluefish in the 2-3 pound range blowing up on peanut bunker right next to shore, and spent most of our day sight casting to blues. Bluefish are known to put up a good fight, and even on the 8 weight they were fun to reel in. It seems to me that you would be able to do this kind of fishing almost any time of year, and it's a great option if you haven't heard anything promising from the striper fishermen.
