Willowfly Anglers Fall 2016 Fishing Report October 4thOctober 04, 2016
THREE RIVERS FALL 2016 FISHING REPORT
The Gunnison is down to 280 cfs through town. The Taylor River is flowing 100 CFS below the dam. The C&R has been tricky with low flows and the rest of Taylor Canyon has been good midday through the afternoon.
The Gunnison River has been fishing well from 11am to 4pm this week. Kokanee are in the river all the way up to Almont. Egg patterns behind Kokanee pods have been producing some nicer browns. BWO’s, midges, SJ Worms, and Egg Patterns are all producing. Cloudy days have been awesome for streamer fishing, the browns are pretty aggressive right now – vary your retrieve a lot to find out what they will strike. The most productive float is from Riverway to Wilson's Landing. The best walk/wade access is at the Almont Campground.
The Catch and Release section below Taylor Dam is fishing well in faster water with BWO emergers & dries, midge larva, midge pupa, and mysis shrimp imitations. Use as small of an indicator as you can get away with to avoid spooking fish. 6x fluorocarbon tippet is your best bet right now. Taylor Canyon from the Catch and Release downstream to Almont is seeing some BWO’s and midges. Streamers have also been productive in the canyon as the water gets lower and the browns get aggressive. Call the shop for the latest updates on flows and what to expect. Our shop is also fully stocked with 2016 flies, and gear so come check out whats new this year.
