I am a Fly Fisherman

April 06, 2017

This is a great short story from Billings, Montana that spotlights fly fishing's rare ability to transcend stereotypes and the differences between us.

From Redington: "Escape to Montana’s legendary Bighorn River with Rich, a fly angler and hard-rock miner from Billings who works hard to play hard no matter the season. He understands what it means to be a contradiction, and his story highlights the nuanced relationship every angler has with the river. At the end of it all, though, Rich understands one vital truth about his identity. He's a fly fisherman, just like the rest of us."

Really enjoyed the cinematography on this video! I'm Montana born and raised in the central region and just like billings; great falls is pretty much the same. Local and statewide waters are very precious to the community. I broke both my legs in November and what I do is research fly fishing, strategies, areas, maps, location, location, location! I've been out twice since my accident and have pulled in one fish. Worth it! Tight lines and lets reel in the younger generations to understand the importance of healthy river systems!
I've always known for the past 60 years that when you're on the water with other fishermen what you do means nothing. Only what you do on the water and how you act is all the matters.
Yes you're producing metal that helps our cars run cleaner but whats that mine doing to the environment? Kind of an odd way to look at it.
Love fishing the Big Horn. Noted he was fishing some of my favorite spots. Can't believe anyone can go skunked for long on this river.
