What? THIS Friday is the EWA 5 Minute of Less Film Fest? Yes it is upon us again, sponsored by Patagonia Provisions and Costa Sunglasses. Event is free we just need to know you are coming so please RSVP right here, email or call, only 20 spaces left! shop@emeraldwateranglers.com or 206-708-7250
You know its miserably cold out these days but that also keeps most other people off the water so if you are tough, now is the time to fish. And while many feel as though there are only a few options this time of year, there are far more opportunities than most give credit to, creeks, steelhead, Yakima and the Sound...and yes, glad we were on the siunny side this day!
Two bills have been introduced in Olympia as of this week, and a hearing for both bills was very quickly scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday, January 17th at 10 am. (Hearing Room B, John L O'Brien Building)

Please join us at the hearing as your voice is critical to reforming suction dredge mining in Washington State! Arrive early to ensure a seat in the hearing room - as we know, suction dredge supporters (miners)will be there en masse! We need to show the committee that our voice is stronger!

More info here:

Help us protect Washington State’s imperiled fish populations by TAKING ACTION to ask your legislators in Olympia to reform suction dredge mining regulations by voting YES on HB 1077 and HB 1106. You are being contacted because your State Representative sits on the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, where the fate of these bills will be decided.

Washington is the only state with populations of Endangered Species Act (ESA)-listed Pacific salmon and steelhead that still allows unpermitted suction dredging and other forms of motorized mineral prospecting.

Due to proven impacts to fish habitat caused by suction dredging, California (2009) and Oregon (2016) no longer allow this activity, and Idaho regulates it strictly under the Clean Water Act (2013).

The current regulations in Washington allow suction dredge mining without oversight, tracking, or accountability – no permits, no fees, no monitoring required.

This is simply unacceptable giving what’s at stake with our critical fish populations – many of them on the brink of extinction. Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars have been spent on fish habitat restoration efforts throughout Washington State’s watersheds over the past 20+ years. These investments are literally being washed downstream.

HB 1077 and HB 1106 will require Washington State to begin tracking and monitoring all suction dredging activities to ensure they do not threaten our already struggling fish populations.

It only takes a moment to TAKE ACTION by contacting your legislator to voice your concerns on suction dredge mining and to urge them to vote yes on HB 1077 and HB 1106.

This Thursday! Don't miss one of our favorite events of the year. IF4 will be at Tini Bigs/Hula Hula this Thursday, January 12th, with all proceeds benefiting the Coastal Cutthroat Coalition. See you there!
2017 has brought in some seriously wintry weather thus far, turning our focus solely to steelhead. So put away the one-handers for the time being, and dust off the spey rigs. Need help with gear or fly selection for the steelhead season? We're here to help! We still have limited space throughout the season for trips to the Olympic Peninsula, so call the shop today and book your adventure or pick our brains about our most coveted fishery. Happy Hunting.
Sound tip for the day. Get to know several beaches with different geographical and shoreline qualities so when one isn't happening, others might be the ticket. #ewareports #keepemwet
A state capitol SRC session! It is tough to leave a beach with fish to find other fish but the more you know the better. When those go to beaches come up short, success will be found in knowing other places nearby so get out and explore. Today, it was all about the fast retrieve...
A double Happy New Year from all of us here at EWA. An iintimate moment between and sea run and a resident coho. Sound is fishing VERY WELL right now.
