•Sunday Private Lessons all day. (Limited Spots Left)
Come down to the shop and enjoy one of the best #SpeyInstructors of our generation. He’s placed as high as #3 in the world Spey Casting competition, but he really shines as an Instructor. Don’t miss out on the last chance this year to learn from one of the best #speyinstructors of our generation. #speylessons #speycourse #learningtospeycast #dayOFF #familiestofanatics #OFFflyshop #CalgarysFlyShop
Happy #Thanksgiving 🦃 everyone! I love this photo because it says so much about what #flyfishing does. It shows #family coming together and how members of a family can live across a country from each other but fly fishing will bring them together. It shows an incredible guide who so many people are thankful to get to spend a day with, and yet you can see how grateful and thankful he still is for every day and opportunity to show people what an incredible fishery we have. It shows a #bowriver #browntrout that any of us would be very thankful to put our hands on and it reminds us how fortunate we are to have such incredible fisheries right outside our doorstep to fish. A picture is supposed to say a thousand words and in this case it may say even more to me. I’m thankful for all of those who have helped with the guiding, all those who help in the shop, and without question for all of you. Without you we couldn’t exist. Small shops couldn’t easily be forced out by big box stores and online shopping but because of so many of you we get the privilege of working in this incredible industry and the opportunity to meet so many incredible people. Know we are grateful and this Thanksgiving we’re very #thankful for all of you. #familiestofanatics #dayOFF #OFFflyshop #CalgarysFlyShop
What a crazy week we had. @derekolthuis, @sosfly of @tackyflyfish and Courtney from @bluehalogear joined us this past week for some fishing and filming. Tuesday we had that 104 year snowfall record for October and then Wednesday when the snow started to melt the river got filthy dirty, super cold and the water bumped way up. Not exactly how you’d like the river to debut when you have a film crew with you but we played the hand we were dealt and made the best of it. Working with such a great group of guys was a riot and an honor but it’s still always one of those things where you feel a huge sense of responsibility with respect to how the fishery is represented. In many respects it’s an incredible testament to this fishery that there were still fish landed everyday despite atrocious conditions. This shoot had to be rescheduled from its original September dates and sadly wasn’t the dry fly fishing film we’d originally hoped for, but still feel fortunate that we were able to find fish willing to eat everyday. It was an early onset of fall this year and it’s been a fall that feels more like winter. When fall hits our fish know that winters not far around the corner (or in this case staring is right in the face) they typically feed. We found the browns in typical transition water and the rainbows are in the troughs and buckets you’d expect them to be at this time of year. Many an angler wouldn’t have put up with the conditions (or me as a guide) but these boys stuck it out and stuck a bunch of fish in the process. A big thanks to @tourismcalgary for helping bring @bluehalogear @sosfly and @derekolthuis to town. And for the record the weather did immediately warm up as soon as they got on the ✈️ 🤦🏼‍♂️ #orvisflyfishing #bowriver #bowriverbrowntrout #calgaryflyfishing #flyfishyyc #orvisadventures #explorealberta #exploreAB
