There was a good bite off Little Egg today, and Brigantine also had fish along the 3 mile line. Hunter 13 caught his first striper today, and his biggest fish ever at 39 inches. We caught the fish on Riptide MoJo's and on Pet #21 spoons. I only have two more days available for charters both Friday 12/9 and Sunday, 12/11 are open. I'll be pulling the boat after that.
Riptide Bait & Tackle eels catch another one. James and I fished about 45 minutes yesterday around Dusk behind Brigantine drifting eels and casting plugs to the sods. The deadsticked eel rod started humming and we landed this nice 32
Here are a couple of the stripers released on Wednesday. You can see the lures that we were using to catch them in the picture.
Striper fishing out of Brigantine is on fire. James and I only had a short window to do any fishing yesterday. Leaving the dock at 3:23 PM yesterday we ran Babu III North to the Inlet and out to a 30 foot depth. Once the trolling spread, Mojo's with Tony Accetta 21 spoons in tandem, was set by 4:00PM, we worked our way into deeper water. Sighted Gannets, whales, and a school of big fish breaking in about 35 feet of water. Keeping the boat out of the school with the lures back in the school we started to get multiple hits. Staying with the school with only two of us on the boat and six lines in the water I felt like a one armed paperhanger. Pulling the spread out of the water at 5:08 PM with six striper boated up to 42 inches only keeping two fish at 39 inches made for a great short trip. We got back to the dock at 5:55 PM.
I'm hoping that fish like this one are on their way down from up North. We did our first ocean troll for striper yesterday. Dropped the lines (mojo / bunker spoons) into 30 feet of water off wreck inlet ran parallel along the 3 mile line to the red tower off Beach Haven. There was some bait, porpoise, and gannets along the way. The wind started to pick up about 10 AM so we turned around and trolled back to the South tip of Holgate. By 11 the seas were starting to build, so we cleared the lines and ran back through wreck inlet. It is only the second time this season that I've run the inlet, and I still haven't found a good line through it. I was down to 2 feet on the sounder coming back. The fish are still North of Barnegat. We didn't hear of any striper caught on the troll in front of LBI. The striper will be here. It is just a question of when they will be swimming past Brigantine. If you want to catch a cow striper, you should be planning a trip for November and/or December.
