This isn't a fishing pic, but it sums up the last week and a half of my life. I want to thank all of you called, texted and emailed to check in on me and my family. We were a lot more fortunate than so many others, we experienced no flooding or home damage...just several big trees down (and many smaller ones) that fell away from all things important. I've spent pretty much all of the last week helping friends and neighbors chainsaw and clear their properties and homes so we can get our lives and businesses back to normal.

As many of you know, I took break from social media this year, but up to Florence we had a great season with excellent shallow water red drum fishing in particular. I know the impacts might force a few our of favorite hotels to be closed for the season, and that's jeopardized a lot of folks plans, but there are plenty of places still open and lot of AirBnB options. Because of Florence, I have a lot more availability this October and November than most years so I do hope some of yall come down and join me for some good fall fishing.

Storms usually make for excellent inshore fishing and this week has been no exception with good flounder and red drum in the Beaufort fishing following Hurricane Irene and Matthew was some of the best of my career as much of the states fish were washed downstream towards the inlets. In addition just this week we've even good albacore and spanish mackerel off the beaches just 4 days after the storm hit.

The best way to help our community out after this storm is come on down and help get us back to normal. Grab a meal at one of your favorite places, book a day or 3 with your favorite fishing guide, even buy some sustainably caught seafood to take home and enjoy some time at the crystal coast during the best time of the year. Plenty of restaurants are open, there are places to stay, Im ready to fish...and the fish are here and waiting.
