Capt. Brendan McCarthy founded Urban Fly Guides in 1998. Brendan has been fortunate to be on the water since he was a child. Since moving to NYC in 1990 and, ironically, discovering fly fishing, has been completely immersed in the sport ever since. He is lucky to be named one of Urban Angler's guides and voted in the Top 5 Guides by New York Magazine. Lives in Manhattan and the Hamptons, depending on the time of year and best fishing opportunities. Brendan fishes Jamaica Bay in May, June, November, and December; Gardiners/Peconic/Shinnecock Bays in May, June, July and Montauk exclusively in August, September and October. Sight-Fishing from a poled Flats-skiff in the Spring and Summer is by far Brendan’s favorite way to fish for Striped Bass. To fish as a team in breathtaking gin-clear, knee-deep water, this is as challenging a way to fly-fish as there exists. This is where addiction meets true-love of the sport.
