The largest of a few big fish we caught....maybe 9'. Fun day!
Our one and only day to keep sturgeon this summer and we got one, lost a couple we were pretty sure were keepers and a lot of smaller fish. Now it's time to catch the big ones!
Hi to all,
They finally decided when the summer season for the retention of sturgeon will open this year. We have been waiting and waiting and waiting and at today’s meeting the ODF&W decided to open it for one day in the Bonneville pool where I fish! Yes, we can catch & release all year long, but our one day to be able to keep a fish will be June 10th.

I know that many of you have already booked your sturgeon trip with me this year, but believe it or not, I still have June 10th open! Soooooooooo, first contact gets it.  There is no guarantee that we will catch keepers but there is a darn good chance, so if that’s on your list of things to do, give me a shout now.

We definitely have some high water conditions this season, and that may limit some of the favorite holes that I like to fish, but it’s a big river and we will find some spots. There are always plenty of the oversize fish around and of course they are a blast.

We still have not heard the final decisions on the steelhead fishery in the Columbia, but there looks to be some restrictions this summer & fall due to the “B” run (steelhead destined for Idaho) being forecasted to be low. The salmon fishing should be fine and steelhead in the Deschutes River should be fine, so we are hoping for decent runs.

By the way, if you want to go on a Deschutes River steelhead trip, we need to get the date(s) nailed down soon in order to secure a boater pass. And remember that I also do Deschutes River tours for those that would like to experience the river without fishing. Please see my web site for more info.

All for now, and I look forward to fishing with you soon!
