Catch and release snook with good annual clients Matt & Gord from Toronto.
Fall red fish schools have been a little harder to find this year. We are suffering from massive amounts of polluted water in Tampa Bay. This is the result of dumping raw sewage, dams over flowing algae into our sensitive estuaries and just the shear volume of vessel fishing our limited resource. Conservation should be the number one goal of all recreational anglers and charter captains or we will not have much of a fishery left.
I have chosen to fish areas that most people avoid in the hopes of finding something special for my clients, but even so I am followed around by recreational fisherman and even other charter captains at times. I understand the zeal of other fisherman to catch fish, but a certain amount of etiquette should be observed..
On this day, I went to catch bait at my normal fall spot. When I got there a yellow bay boat was there. Not a big deal, I don't own the water and he was there first. He was not catching bait properly. I knew bait would be harder because this spot is a one boat bait spot. So I was late to pick up my charter and then once they were on the boat, I delayed the start of their trip to catch more bait because I wanted to make sure we had enough bait to chum heavily.
I proceeded to a fishing spot that I found all by myself. I do not cell phone fish or share my secrets. The day before we caught nearly 50 snook in this spot, but the largest on was only 26
