Meet Your Fishing Guide - Austin Ziletti

Born and bred on the James River in Virginia, Austin was introduced to the outdoors at an early age by both his dad and grandfather. Early memories bring back vivid images riding on his dad’s shoulders in the woods getting smacked in the face by every branch imaginable. He feels blessed to have grown up in a place so naturally diverse. In present day, he still has his all-consuming obsession with the outdoors and it makes him happy to share it with others.
It was a natural progression that he would become a river guide after his first trip to Montana with his family, he was star struck by it all. Austin explains, “The excitement I see in someone’s face who just got to experience a bit of “my world” is what keeps me coming back behind the oars”. He soon began guiding on his home river for smallmouth and in the Appalachian Mountains for trout. Austin spent time in the Northwest guiding for Emerald Water Anglers in Seattle, WA and a short stint in Bristol Bay, AK. He was forced to return home to Richmond and wait out the long recovery from an extensive leg injury after a whitewater accident on Clear Creek in Colorado. Once he got the okay from the doctors he was back at it with a new-found love for whitewater paddling and spent the season working on the James as a raft guide and kayaking in the West Virginia whitewater.
Drifters Lodge is lucky to have Austin and his love for the outdoors, because “it is infectious” and through his easy-going nature he will work to ensure the experience you came to Alaska to find, will be delivered.
