With great weather year-round and an incredible marine habitat, there's no limit to the possibilities here.

Islamorada (pronounced aisle-a-more-AH-dah) enjoys the tropical climes of the Florida Keys and a unique marine geography that harbors sailfish, wahoo, tarpon, permit, bonefish, amberjack … the list goes on. Tucked between the Florida Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, with miles of shallow reefs and the Gulf Stream bringing in deep-water visitors, Islamorada lives up to its reputation as the "Sportfishing Capital of the World."

Cruise the aqua blue flats in a skiff, testing your double-haul fly cast against feisty bonefish. Or charter a bigger boat, head offshore to the edge of the reef and wrestle with 70-pound sailfish, considered by many to be Islamorada's premier game fish. Further offshore, drop sturdy tackle into the deep and take a chance at hooking a 1000-pound shark. Whether you're in the shallows or going for the big one, what you reel in can always be a surprise. There's something for everyone, from expert fly-caster to total novice.

Fishing never sleeps in Islamorada. January through March are "winter" (temps at night seldom drop much below 60 degrees), when sailfish are on the bite. In March, favorable winds draw can mackerel and bluefish into the Gulf, and the kingfish are heating up. As the water warms in April, bonefish, permit and tarpon are more frequent on the flats, and charters also start heading into deeper water. July brings the heat, with evening fishing for bonefish and permit, and charters plying the depths. By October the tarpon are thinning out but there are still plenty of other fish around.

Outfitters offer half- or full-day charters and are stocked with an arsenal of tackle to handle the different depths and fish species. First mates climb the "tuna tower" to scout for current edges, weedlines, circling birds and other signs of where the fish are schooled up. The day can really perk up while fishing for one species and then suddenly getting into a patch of water where something else is biting hard.

Aside from the fishing, Islamorada offers opportunities for diving, snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking and a variety of other activities. This, after all, is the Florida Keys.
