Go inshore chasing Redfish and Tarpon or head into the Gulf of Mexico after big game fish. Galveston might be heaven for spin fishermen.

Just a short drive from Houston, the Galveston area provides a fantastically diverse environment for all different kinds of fishing. An angler here can fish light tackle in Galveston Bay or off the jetties. Many charters offer deep sea fishing as well, so you can head 50 miles out into the Gulf of Mexico and hook into monster tuna, billfish, and amberjack.

Galveston provides a unique fishing opportunity for anglers, something that you might only be able to find in the Gulf of Mexico. Many outfitters in Galveston offer oil rig fishing, combining a deep sea fishing trip with a reef-like experience. While the oil rigs do get a lot of bad press, they also act as a reef for the Gulf’s various sea life. The deeper rigs provide a novel fishing experience, as they present themselves as a reef where almost all types of fish (both shallow and deepwater) can be found.
