Early King run predicted on the Alagnak RiverMay 07, 2016
The herring have spawned at least 2 weeks earlier than normal in the Bristol Bay area and Berring Sea. This usually means that the king salmon run will be earlier than normal as well. We are hoping this is true and there will be not only an early run, but also a run filled with larger than average kings since the herring were not commercially fished for due to the early spawn before their season. This has created a surplus of Herring and the kings may have ample opportunities to feed on them before they head up to their spawning rivers.
We will be ready and eager to find out at Angler's Alibi!
